Watermelon Gradient Nails

Hello, hello! I've finally decided to celebrate/embrace summer time by doing these super cute looking watermelon inspire nails. Unfortunately, I have a watermelon intolerance (sad, I know) and I cannot eat any watermelon; which is really unfortunate because my family consumes an unfathomable amount of it during the summer, so I'm always surrounded by them. Plus, watermelons have such nice and bright colours that make a very eye-catching manicure!
Alright, let's get down to some tips and tricks (with pictures!!) on how to create your very own watermelon gradient nail art:

  • Start off by painting your thumb, first finger and pinkie a light shade of green (I used one from  Simply Sweet's Vintage Glam Collection), and paint your middle and ring fingers a solid white (I used Sally Hansen's White Out)
  • Use a toothpick or a small dotting tool to make lines across the nails you've painted green. The lines do not have to be perfect and try to vary the thickness of your lines. To do this, I used Ciate's Ditch the Heels (a dark opaque green)
  • Use a makeup sponge to create the gradient on your middle and ring finger (I used Ciate's Ditch the Heels, Simple Sweet Vintage Glam #11, and Sally Hansen's White Out)
  • To keep the cuticle cleaning to a minimal, apply a thin layer of washable glue around the cuticles and let it dry before you do the gradient; you can peel the glue off once you're done
  • To create the seeds use a small dotting tool dipped in a small amount of black nail polish or acrylic paint
  • finish off your design with a fat drying top-coat
